Listening to Mexico’s Natalia Lafourcade

Natalia Lafourcade (born Natalia Lafourcade Silva on 26 February 1984 in Mexico City, Mexico) is a Mexican pop-rock singer and songwriter. She has been active since 1998. She has done solo work and has performed with her band, Natalia y La Forquetina.

Since she was very young, Natalia had a great interest in music, partly because her parents were musicians (her father is the French-Chilean musician Gastón Lafourcade). At three years old she began to sing and at four, she realized that she wanted to be an artist.

Natalia’s career started with acoustic ballads and Bossa Nova on her self-titled debut. She followed it up with a rock-oriented album, Casa, then with a more classical offering, 4 Estaciones del Amor. Presently, her current sound falls distinctly in the category of Indie Pop/Rock. No Viniste (the video above) is from her most recent album, Hu Hu Hu – released in 2009. Hu Hu Hu features dream-like, melodious songs with an incredible swatch of sounds – acoustic guitars, electric guitars, drums, bass, horns, strings, piano, and even, accordion. Her instrumentation has been compared to the likes of Brian Wilson – a high compliment.

Even if you do not speak Spanish, give your ears and senses a treat and get this album and surprise! Hu Hu Hu has 3 songs in English.

If you like Natalia, you will like also Carla Morrison and Ximena Sariñana.
